CORI and Worcester County Criminal Records

CORI stands for Criminal Offender Record Information. It is the official state-level criminal history report covering all cases in the Massachusetts court system, which includes every Worcester County criminal records case filed in a state court. The Department of Criminal Justice Information Services (DCJIS) maintains the iCORI system and processes all CORI requests.

The standard CORI fee is $25 per subject. If you are requesting your own record, you can do one free search per year through the iCORI system at mass.gov. A personal CORI report shows your complete criminal history as held in the state system, including arraignments, dispositions, and sentences.

CORI access is governed by MGL Chapter 6, Sections 167 through 178. The law limits who can request someone else's CORI and for what purpose. Individuals always have the right to see their own record. Organizations that meet certain requirements can request CORI on other people, but they must follow specific rules about storage and use under that same chapter.

A CORI report typically includes arraignments, charges filed, plea information, trial outcomes, sentences, and probation terms. It does not include arrests that did not lead to arraignment, and it does not cover federal or out-of-state cases. If a record has been sealed, it won't appear in most searches. Sealing is available after five years for misdemeanors and ten years for felonies under MGL c. 276 Section 100A, and immediately for dismissals and not guilty findings under Section 100C.

People who want to clear their Worcester County criminal records through expungement should look at MGL c. 276 Sections 100E through 100U, which set out the eligibility rules and process. Not all records qualify. The rules depend on the type of offense, the outcome of the case, and how much time has passed.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office runs the county jail and house of correction. The facility holds pre-trial detainees and people serving sentences of up to two and a half years. The average daily population runs around 1,339 inmates.

Worcester County has an online inmate search. You can look up current inmates by name or ID number at no cost, and the database is updated regularly. The search also shows visiting times. This is one of the more convenient inmate lookup tools among Massachusetts county jails.
